Shadow Cloud

Using Light To Create Multiple Forms From One Object

This is the Shadow Cloud. Certainly interesting enough as an object in its own right, but things get much more exciting when lighting comes into play.

One structure, with specifically located details, can cast three different shadows depending on how the object is angled towards a targeted light source.

Pictured above is a shadow cloud titled “Thru religion”. Watch the following video to see why…

This is the work of Drzach & Suchy, and it represents a more complex exploration along a similar theme to the makerbot shadow sculpture that we saw recently.

There is real scope to play with these ideas of light and shade in both laser cutting and 3d printing. Those of you with a makerbot of your own could probably start experimenting right away… if you do, be sure to let us know how you go.

That’s really cool. I’m glad I watched it to the end. I nearly had to stop after 10 seconds due to that accompanying music.
