I would have thought that the combination of steel and concrete would be bleak and uninviting. But somehow Konzuk has managed to turn these materials into beautiful and somewhat warm pieces of jewellery. The jewellery contrasts well know materials that have been around forever with the latest manufacturing technologies: laser cutting and CNC machining to create something that is fresh and innovative. Konzuk rejects the idea of unnecessarily complicated jewellery and instead opts for a minimalist aesthetic that is consistent with modern industrial design and architecture. The pieces combine subtle colour variations with clean and unembellished forms. Konzuk describes the work as “an expression of individual style; a modern design object of strength, durability, color and beautyâ€.
Concrete seems to be a material that growing in popularity in design. The Konzuk range of concrete/steel pieces includes pendants, earrings, rings, cufflinks and bracelets. The designs that I like most are often those that combine materials and use both digital manufacturing as well as some more crafted elements.
